York is a city and unitary authority in the Yorkshire and the Humber region of England. Together with the non-metropolitan county of North Yorkshire and the unitary authorities of Middlesborough, Redcar and Cleveland and Stockton-on-Tees south of the river it forms the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire.
