post_box:design=* is the design of a postbox, how it looks. This is different from post box:type=* as it regards the design, compared to the shape of the postbox. This tag is at present mostly used in the United Kingdom and Belarus and post-boxes from one country will likely not be used much in other countries. The proposal for this key is currently lost.

The main models of post boxes found on the territory of Russia. The tag post_box:design= is strongly recommended to be used in conjunction with the tag design:year= , since there are models with the same official name that have completely different characteristics (for example, ЯПНР-II-С)

| fluted | A freestanding pillar box, taking the form of a small cylindrical column with fluted sides. Some have small vertical slots some have small horizontal slots. Also known as PB1/viii. They have the VR cypher and "Post Office" along the rim. There are twelve in the UK. | |
