toilets
Description
Indicates if a feature has a toilet.
Group: Properties
Used on these elements
Status: in use

Indicates that a feature has a toilet if the value is yes, or that there are none if the value is no.

Even if it seems standard that a feature has a toilet, adding the tag is useful. For example, not every restaurant in every country will have a toilet.

There are some additional tags that may be important to describe the toilet facility itself:

  • Whether the toilet is suitable for wheelchair users. Use toilets:wheelchair=yes/no/limited.
  • Whether the toilet is suitable for gender-neutral use. Use toilets:unisex=yes/no.

It is also possible to tag a toilet available for everybody as a separate object. Place a node centrally at the location of the toilet amenities and tag it amenity=toilets.

toilets:access=yes may be used to indicate that toilet is available for everybody and toilets:access=customers may be used to indicate that access is restricted to customers of the object.

Some mappers use the toilets:*=* namespace also for additional information, like for example toilets:fee=* or toilets:charge=*.

Possible tagging mistake

  • toilet=*
If you know places with this tag, verify if it could be tagged with another tag.
