Under no circumstances should you (semi-)automatically change “deprecated” tags to something else in the database on a large scale without conforming to the automated edits code of conduct. Any such change will be reverted.

In Europe amenity=water was often used for places to get arbitrary water. Often, these are open water tanks found in cemeteries that are filled up with either rainwater or water from a tap. Therefore man_made=water_tap with drinking_water=* can be used to indicate these water station.
