Building constructed as house for a single family.
In vast majority of cases inhabited by a single household, such as a single family or small group of people sharing a kitchen and living space, but some may have a different use or be empty.
Houses forming half of a semi-detached pair, or one of a row of terraced houses, should share at least two nodes with joined neighbours.
More specific options
There are two ways to be more specific about the type of house, either house=* can be used or you can change the value of the building=* tag itself, as is shown below:

- Countries where houses usually share walls may find it useful to use the tag building=detached for a house that is free-standing (not sharing any walls with other house)
- For other residential accommodations, see building=residential and building=apartments.
- A row of terraced houses (i.e. houses which share two walls with adjacent houses) can initially be tagged as building=terrace, but it's preferable to then split them into individual houses. Make sure neighbouring houses share at least two nodes.
