This tag may be used to mark places that sometimes may have a religious ethos, such as amenity=school but where this one specifically does not have any religious ethos.
Using this tag is preferable to leaving religion untagged. Without religion=none, there is no way to distinguish places where a mapper forgot to add the religion tag and places with no religious ethos.
