A charity shop is a shop operated by a charity, for the purposes of fundraising. Also known as a thrift shop, thrift store or op shop.

Usually selling an eclectic mixture of second hand goods, donated directly to the individual shop by the public. eg books, clothing, toys, furniture. May also sell some new products, eg confectionery, crafts. Almost always staffed entirely by teams of volunteer retirees although the shop manager may be an employee.

Note that many people in developed countries will specifically seek out charity shops when they need to get rid of used, but still usable surplus items.

Some charity shops specialize in specific classes of goods: for instance Oxfam Books and British Heart Foundation furniture stores in the UK. Some mappers prefer to tag these as shop=books and shop=furniture respectively. If you choose to do this, please consider using charity=yes too. The specialization is often more due to space considerations than anything else though.
