Toronto/Statistics
The statistics presented on this page attempt to describe the quality and completeness of data in the City of Toronto. As this is a moving target, please note relevant dates for all statistics cited.
Buildings
As of October 2019, there were 348,500 buildings in Toronto, largely due to an incomplete import effort started in late 2018. This included efforts by:
Username | Buildings imported (approximate) | General Area |
---|---|---|
DannyMcD_imports | 170,000 | West side of city |
scruss_imports | 2,000 | Scarborough |
zzptichka and zzptichka_import | 140,000 | East side of city |
The central area where buildings were densest prior to the import remains largely untouched by the import. At present (October 2019) the City of Toronto contains about 348,500 buildings, of which about 307,000 were last touched by one of the three (four) import accounts mentioned above. It is not currently known how many buildings were overwritten by the import.
Quality Issues
Simplification
Of the imported buildings, many included extra nodes along straight segments, resulting in a great number of nodes which add little or no information to the outline of the building. Of the 3,329,713 nodes belonging to buildings, 645,195 (~16.2%) would be removed by an application of the Douglas-Peuker simplification algorithm with a 15cm threshold.
